Postcard Project in Artspace

28 September – 12 October 2011

Our Love Arts Festival celebrates the role of the arts in improving the mental health and well-being of all of us.  We are proud to announce our partnership with Leeds Art Gallery for the ‘It’s Official – Art makes you happy!’ project.

We will be mounting an exhibition of postcards produced by a fifty individual local, national and international artists that explores emotional responses to art and specifically artist’s responses to the notion of happiness.

The project is inspired by recent research in the field of neuroesthetics which has found that viewing art is more than just good for your health – it can have a big impact on the nation’s happiness.

We are delighted that Semir Zeki, Professor of Neuroesthetics at University College London, and author of studies on the neural correlates of beauty, will be opening our postcard project with a guest lecture that explores the correlation between art, beauty and well-being at Leeds Art Gallery on Wednesday 28th September at 6pm.

All postcards will be raffled at the end of the project. Proceeds will go towards raising funds for initiatives that promote positive mental health and wellbeing through the arts.

Here are some examples of the postcards so far:

Please contact loveartsleeds@gmail.com or 0113 3056621 to receive an A5 postcard and instructions for your submission.

The deadline for submissions is 1st September 2011.

  3. Selling a small number of printed postcards of the original designs may be a way of raising more funds.
Let me know if it sounds like a good idea.
    Good luck!
